German porcelain service in the Kurfurstendamm Berlin pattern with thick gold banding designed by Hans Theo Baumann for Rosenthal in 1959.

 

Set consists of 37 pieces:

  • 10 coffee cups – 7 cm high
  • 12 saucers – 13,5 cm diameter
  • 12 bread plates – 17 cm diameter
  • 1 coffee pot – 20 cm high
  • 1 sugar bowl – 8 cm high
  • 1 creamer – 7,2 cm high

 

Condition:

Excellent vintage condition. Set appears to have never been used.

  • Hans Theo Baumann is considered to be a giant of German post-war design. Born in Basel, Switzerland in 1924, he studied painting, sculpture and design in his native city but was soon working in Germany where he spent the rest of his career, establishing his own studio in 1955 and shaping half a century of German design. 

    Founding President of the Verband Deutscher Industrie-Designer (VDID) 1959-61. Has worked in architecture, and created designs for glass (both hollow ware and stained glass) furniture, metalwork and ceramics.

    He made designs for the Staatliche Porzellan Manufaktur Berlin in 1959, for Thomas in 1965, for the Schönwald and Arzberg porcelain factories in 1970, and from 1954-70 independent designer for Rosenthal. Also created glass designs for Süssmuth, Gral and Daum.
